The unstarted Applied Geophysics course in the Geology Dept. of the University of Kerala

[The unstarted Applied Geophysics course in the Geology Dept. of the University of Kerala, Kariavattom campus]
In fact when I rejoined the Dept. of Geology (Aug., 1982), the same year or the following year, the MS Krishnan Lecture series was instituted by the University and to be organised by the Dept. of Physics and Geology alternatively. The offer to do the first talk came to the Geology Dept. And the then HOD-professor decided to have Dr. Harsh Gupta to be the speaker. Well beyond the first lecture I am unsure about the continuity of the annual lecture series..
After the inaguration of the MSc geology course in 1963, the university had not contemplated about expansion of the academic program beyond MSc geology even after two plus decades.
I sort of piloted an idea for the approval of the dept. of geology for starting a course in Applied Geophysics. Those days, unlike now, there was no place below the latitude of Osmania Univ., where one could to a Geophysics course.
My efforts sort of awarded with a rejection but their suggestion was to talk to Prof. Viswanathan, HOD Physics to start the Applied Geophysics course. Even today the new course remains a daydream for me and a mirage for the young Keralites of college or university age.In fact the inaction in the Kerala psyche is nothing new and some thing of today or this decade, it is a factor in the DNA of the academic community. New breeze is stone walled and deflected in unison.
