Vadavathur near kotayam was supposed to be a waste dumping or composting site. similarly Nettukaltheri is site preferred for trivandrum waste composting site. both are rejected by the local citizens. it is the NIMBY attitude that rules the mind every where. yet our technocrats are beating about the bush on waste treatment. In a state like kwerala with all the high density of population what the technology for treatment shall be, according to me, high temp incineration. However, either it is ignored or we will embrace may be after a decade. Our techno led errs are talking about the moisture content of the mostly green waste that unwelcome to incineration. I got a simple suggestion. We have electric crematoria is several cities of the country. The dead body is more watery than living human bod. Yet the incineration process in the set up is quick and instant. Cooly we ignore the thermodynamic part. So I am with people of Vadavathoor and Nettukaltheri when they say in unison they will not let city waste treated in their province. The cities will have to invent a two acre space to set up incinerators for disposing the waste. there will certainly be a certain amount of ash which can be easily disposed off scientifically in a suitable site. What is now needed is a new mindset. it is difficult to over come. finally the mindset will evaporate off leaving behind no lingering memories.
