Alappuzha water has high levels of nitrate and fluoride, say a scroll in one of the channels. The attribution is fertilizer use. But what is unmentioned is the human feces supplying nitrate. The septic tanks or pits attached to latrines are important sources too. Fluoride can only originate from natural mineral sources. The matter of concern is the dense population and frequency of latrines adjacent homes.
Such reports have been appearing in the media since a very long tome.now there is a degree of sensationalism about the issue.
Who ever reported the news failed immensely to suggest remedial measures. It is basically red flagging a piece of news.
In the state of Kerala with the given population density which steeply is going up, only alternative will be providing water from RO treated and clarified sources.
Water is not o ly a problem in the coastal Alappuzha but it is a menace all over india. Our nation will suffer from two onslaughts, one is drinking water and the other is energy.
These two jointly will beat the country backward .
The vast majority will suffer and the upper end of the population pyramid will be comfortable. That will include our elected guys and the ones with wealth.
The bottom half are destined to distress.
I am not sure what modi can do about it.
