18 May An interesting report about raising the water level in Mullaperiyar reservoir
I read about a interesting report about raising the water level in Mullaperiyar reservoir and a important consequence as flooding of about five thousand or so of forest land.
On the one hand we are status quoing the encroachment and on the other crying foul in flooding due to raising of the water level.
If you checked the inch to mile to poshest of 1920’s and the new series published in 1968 on wards we see the finger tip valleys once flooded by the higher water level which was like in the plus 150′ now in the later maps showing up as natural turf covered filled up basins. One example sits right along the route to aranyanivas from Kumali and on the right side of the road.
So what I mean to say is it is not forest that will be covered but parts of the reservoir now exposed due to the lower water level.
Tamil technocrats are as smart as we are even better than us due to their own commitment and pride. Our bureaucrats now conferred with a new status over the techs need by very careful in taking such stands.
It seems as if it was nonexistent while the court was listening to the arguments by the two sides.
